Starting on February 1st, 2025 our Department Survey Data Curation, Team International Studies located in Cologne, is looking for a

Postdoctoral Researcher

(Salary group 13 TV-L, 100% working time, for 36 months)

The department „Survey Data Curation“ processes and prepares social science research data across a diverse range of data types to support sociological and political science research, especially in comparative perspectives across space and time. The curated data include long-running national (e.g., ALLBUS, GLES) and international (e.g., ISSP, CSES) survey programs, which are documented and curated to the highest quality standards, but also research data products derived from or connected to these surveys, such as geo-referencing services or trend files.

 

The project „Eurobarometer Modular Cumulation (EBMC)“, funded by the German Research Foundation (DFG), will systematically harmonize and merge numerous Eurobarometer survey datasets and provide them to the research community as a user-friendly and expandable data offering. The topics of the pilot datasets will be 'European Integration' and 'Climate Change'.

Your tasks will be:

  • Conceptualization, framework and code development for harmonization and cumulation of data
  • Development of decision rules, documentation standards, templates, and guidelines for future cumulations
  • Supporting the project leader in coordinating the project’s Work packages
  • Co-authoring reports, conference presentations and peer-reviewed publications in cooperation with leading international scientists
  • Conducting own research in the project context

Your profile:

  • Master degree or equivalent and Ph.D. in sociology, political science or a related field
  • Excellent knowledge of quantitative social research methods, especially with international comparative survey data
  • Some experience in data harmonization
  • Very good knowledge of the statistical software Stata or R
  • Excellent written and spoken English, German language skills are not necessarily required
