Starting as soon as possible, our Department Computational Social Science (CSS), located in Cologne, is looking for a

Senior Researcher & Team Lead

for Transparent Social Analytics and Open Science

(Salary group 15 TV-L, 100% working time, initially for 4 years with possible tenure)

The department Computational Social Science (CSS) collects digital behavioral data and provides computer-based methods for collecting and analyzing such data for social science research. It also supports scientists with the integration of digital behavioral data into their research designs. The department's research focuses on the quality of digital behavioral data, the development and validation of computational social science methods and the transformation of digital societies.

 

The team Transparent Social Analytics specializes in methods for collecting, pre-processing, and analyzing digital behavioral data. We focus on making these methods accessible and transparent while conducting research on open science and reproducibility in computational social science.

Your tasks will be:

  • Leading a team of postdocs and doctoral students
  • Coordination of the team’s services (e.g., GESIS Methods Hub) and development of innovative open-science services for digital behavioral data
  • Research in the areas of digital behavioral data and computational social science
  • Presentation of research results and GESIS services within relevant scientific communities
  • Conceptualization and writing of third-party funding applications with a focus on research or new services

Your profile:

  • Completed Ph.D. in a field relevant for computational social science, such as applied computer science, statistics, physics, psychology, sociology, political science, communication science or related disciplines
  • Well-defined research profile in computational social science using relevant methods, e.g., machine learning, natural language processing, text/data mining or network analysis
  • Activities related to open science (open methodology, open source) e.g., by visibly publishing methods/code on established platforms, development of tools or methods-focused training activities
  • Experience in the management of research projects and employee management are a plus
  • Communication competence, very good English skills (spoken and written); German language skills are not expected initially but will be required by the start of the tenure process
